DHEC employees exit their offices in the building to get a better look at the dome being installed. A 5,000 lbs. observatory dome was lifted and permanently installed on top of the South Carolina State Museum, Wednesday, as part of its renovation and expansion project. The observatory dome was mounted above the museum’s antique 1926 Alvan Clark telescope, that will later be digitized for use. The dome will rotate 360 degrees and features two shutters that open and close for viewing the sky.
